چکیده
t is estimated that the human T lymphotropic virus type (HTLV-1) infects approximately 20 million people worldide. Associated diseases, however, manifest only in 5–10% f infected individuals.1 Studies have shown that HTLV-1 is ndemic in Southern Japan, the Caribbean, South America, elanesian islands, Papua New Guinea, the Middle East and entral and Southern Africa. In Brazil, HTLV-1 infection is conidered a public health concern as the country figures among he endemic areas in the world with prevalence rates from 1% o 5%.1 Since the discovery of HTLV-1 in 1979, it has been clearly ssociated with hematologic disorders, specifically with adult -cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL), an aggressive neoplasm

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between April 2005 and March 2015. Sera were collected from blood donors and were tested for the presence of HTLV1 specific antibody using ELISA. Reactive sample...

Background and Objectives: Human T-cell lymphotropic viruses (HTLV) type 1 and 2 are retroviruses that share the same routes of transmission as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). As a consequence of epidemiologic similarities, HIV and HTLV-1/2 co-infection is frequent. Due to the limited data, this study assessed the seroprevalence of HTLV-1/2 infections in HIV infected patients in Tehran, Ira...
